47th Anniversary of UCA at Port Macquarie

18 Jun 2024 by Rev Eric Drury in: Latest News

Last Sunday, 16th June, the Port Macquarie congregation celebrated the 47th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia.

The music team led us in hymns which focused on who we are called to be as the Body of Christ both as we gather and as we participate in everyday life.

Reflections on what it means to belong to the Uniting Church were shared by Rev Taualofa Angaaelangi, University Chaplain, and Stephen Nicholson, Chairperson of the Presbytery of Mid North Coast.

Rev Lofa particularly gave thanks for her experiences of discernment and growth as a Christian and in her calling to the Ministry of Deacon through NCYC (National Christian Youth Convention). Her theme included “Uncommon Discoveries of location and people, faith and theology, gifts and ministries”.

Stephen reminded the congregation of the Inaugural Service on 22nd June, 1977, at which he was present. He gave thanks for the many ways in which God has grown and strengthened his gifts for ministry and leadership through the Uniting Church and then reminded us of statements within the Constitution which call the church to be a community of Christ within the community living out “truth and justice for all”.

Rev Eric Drury preached on the theme “It’s Time for Renewal”. Based on the lectionary readings we were reminded of God’s invitation to renewal of HEART, renewal of HOPE and renewal in our believing in, telling of and living out of HIS STORY (Christ’s Story) for the advancement of God’s Kingdom here on earth.

A video was then played of The President of the Assembly, Rev Sharon Hollis, bringing her reflections and greetings on this Anniversary occasion.

To celebrate the occasion, an ANNIVERSARY CAKE was cut by University students, Maree and Rachael, accompanied by Lofa and Stephen. This cake was then shared with those able to enjoy fellowship over Morning Tea and Coffee.

Immediately following this Worship Service at Sherwood Road, worshippers at the Historic Chapel gathered to, again, give thanks to God on the occasion of the 47th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia.

Video of the service is available on the Port Macquarie UC YouTube channel.
